Letter of support from Martin Goetzeler, CEO of OSRAM
OSRAM joined the UN Global Compact in 2005. We see this forum as a great opportunity to further the cause of both social and environmental responsibility. Becoming a member was a natural step in publicly affirming our company values and assuming our place among the companies striving to be a part of the solution to the challenges of globalization.
For us, being a corporate citizen means setting a good example in the communities we are a part of, and influencing our business partners to follow our lead. By signing on to the Global Compact, OSRAM is bringing more than just itself to the party. We expect our suppliers to ensure that they and their own suppliers comply with the Global Compact principles. The aim is to make social responsibility a reality along the entire production chain. Additionally, we support a multitude of projects outside of our core business to further social development around us.
Environmental sustainability and climate protection are challenges we take on every day. The wide range of energy-saving - and therefore environmentally friendly - products that we offer our customers today already allows us to play a leading role in substantially influencing the way the world can be held in balance. The compact fluorescent lamp with integrated electronic control gear that we invented in 1985 - a milestone towards reducing the CO2 emissions responsible for global warming - is a good example. It shows how it has long been our firm belief that developing and improving energy-saving light sources and intelligent lighting systems is the only sustainable strategy for us to pursue.
We have spelled this out in the Mission for our "Global Care" program. This represents our commitment to social and environmental responsibility worldwide. As a leader in innovative lighting solutions, we are dedicated to products and processes that contribute to solving global sustainability challenges, address economic needs and protect the environment for today and for the future.
We will continue to contribute to the cause of the Global Compact and urge all our stakeholders to follow our example.
