Compact fluorescent lamps have meanwhile got a foothold in the market and will replace light bulbs entirely in the foreseeable future. Hitherto their use was however mostly restricted to 220 V mains voltage burn positions. In order to extend the range of application and to make use independent of the normal domestic electricity supply possible, OSRAM developed energy-saving lamps for 12 V DC voltage.
